Insensitivity

December 2, 2008 at 12:11 pm (Uncategorized)

Close to a two hundred dead and people maimed for life in hundreds, 26/11 is the biggest terror outbreak on Indian soil. This is a moment of grief and despair to the country, particularly to those who have lost their loved ones. In such a terrible situation where one is expected to lend a hand and give hope to those in grief, there are many who worry about the incident’s implications on commerce and their personal issues.

First in the list is, “The Man of Indian Cricket…Mr Lalit Modi”. Sooner the news broke, there comes the announcement. This fellow seems to be more worried about cricket while the commandos were still battling with terrorists who held hundreds in hostage. Ya, the incident has implications on cricket and in a cricket crazy country like us, we cannot afford to miss action, but was that the right time for the announcement? Even if he had felt so responsible enough to inform those cricket desperadoes, he could have at least added a few words of sympathy. Finally, it was the British media who had to inform him of being so insensitive, and this man organises another press conference in an effort to potray his humanistic sides.

Then, Mr.R.R.Patil..the home minister of maharastra. This incident is even more absurd and senseless. “Such small incidents happen in such big cities”, was his statement. SMALL?? WTF?? SMALL?? His intention was clear…beat the criticism that was coming and save his political ambitions. Did he feel morally responsibile is an entirely different issue, but there is no room for such grave and coarse remarks.

The media..the fourth estate in democracy. Some sections of this group have never felt the responsibility. What if amithab had slept with a gun under his pillow or sanjay dutt had appointed two more body guards. The reason crystal clear..celeb talk mints money

Can’t we stop being so over personal and think about the tragedy for a minute.

Spirituality (revised)

August 4, 2008 at 10:32 am (Uncategorized)

This post is a revision to my previous one on spirituality. I would try to give more meaningful arguments and convey the idea better this time around. Well the same disclaimers hold for this post too… “These are strictly my personal views and im sorry if i hurt anyone’s religious sentiments, for i strongly believe Spirituality is for the heart, not the brain and it has the capability to manipulate human emotions”.

Look at it like this…what have you always wanted? what does any materialistic or un materialistic pleasure drive you to? what is pleasure in the first place? Its all in the happiness…in staying happy and so does everyone hope to do it. Now visualise a picture wherein the whole world is happy…what do you find in it? Love, Morals, Brotherhood, Peace, Emotions…all the good that we have written down from the ages. So in the larger perspective, world’s happiness lies in defining the good and abiding by it. Here arises the need for a strong medium to carry the good into people. The medium has to be so effective and strong that it can resist all disturbances that are due in the ages to come. Forget this for a while now.

Let us now apply ourselves to thinking about the super natural forces. Forces which are not on par with you or the rest of the world. Forces which govern you and forces which can make you happy for the goods you have done, sad for the bads. Forces you fear and respect for your betterment. If you believe they exist, you respect them. You have to..the reason, quiet simple..you always wanted to be better than the rest of us, you want to cut out..make a difference and have the privileges..be rich, have a status, have a peaceful living, have a better girl friend and so on..when you believe the blessings could make things easier for you, you would not take the slightest of a chance..atleast i would not.

How about clubbing these two..”The medium” and “The super natural forces”. Sounds good..The medium is effective now, for people respect it…they created the characters, stories with lucid details to each good quality, religions(for people are never united on anything) and epics…

Do not mistake me to be an atheist. It just makes more sense to me. Spirituality is for the greater good of all of us.

PS:Criticism is welcome

OBC quota upheld, a take

April 10, 2008 at 6:30 pm (Uncategorized)

The judgment has finally arrived. A long fought issue of reserving 27% of seats to the Other Backward Castes (OBC’S) is finally resolved, not in tranquility but. The apex court has upheld the decision by the central government.

So the total quota in academic institutes’ finally sums upto close to 50%, 22.5% already kept aside for the SC/ST. The deprived people(forward castes) have long forgotten the previously set aside quota and have learnt to live with the pain. So an aspirant from this community now has to pull a fight over the available 50% of the seats. The supreme court judgment however has a clause that the “Creamy Layer” from the OBC’s would not be eligible for admissions under the quota. The apex court has coined a new term “Creamy Layer” and held the economic and social conditions the judging factors as in who falls into this. If the economic conditions did mean a concern to the governments and the courts, why not give quota to economically and socially oppressed from the forward communities?

Afterall, reservations are not all bad. India is a gigantic country and development has not been uniform. True there are many socially oppressed sections. Lack of resources and opportunities are a deep hindrance to getting quality education. The talented and the abled from the communities have to be supported and education is the best means of doing it. Until then no negatives.

But how have they come to the figure 27% ? Is it just because there exists a constitutional clause that reservations have not to exceed 50% in total and 22.5% is already reserved? As such the government still doesn’t hold a clear idea as on what is the population of the OBC’s. Mandal puts it at 52 per cent, the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) at 32 per cent, the National Family and Health Survey at 29.8 per cent. How can there exist a wide variation in the figures, all three quoted being government operated. It would be fun quoting the HRD minister Mr.Arjun Singh in this regard, “I think that should be decided by people who are more knowledgeable“. If the government doesn’t seem knowledgeable and committed to establishing figures, who else is? Arrival at the number 27 has not been justified and a democratic government holds a responsibility to clarify to the nation.
And back to the “Creamy Layer” term. If the apex court feels that it is quiet feasible to categorise who is “Creamy” and who is not among the OBC’s, why can’t they do it to the forward communities? Does it want to potray that all of these people are financially well sustained and stable or Are the agencies so incapable to categorise? If the landmark judgement(as termed by UPA) is the victory of social justice, is this deprived section not eligible for justice?

There are many questions left unanswered and for the UPA, the judgement comes as an election gift as it is going to face polls in 6 states later in the year and probably mid terms to the lower house.

Its been a while since i have last blogged. As i sit here to give a bit of action to my small chunk of audience or may be speak a bit to myself, i don’t really know where would i head to and what do i speak. I will start on movies first. yep, don’t wonder its bollywood definitely. “Tare jameen par” was a recent watch which satisfied my long thirst for an emotionally connected movie. I found it much on the lines of Mr.B’s “Black”, though. The movie was well framed and has once again proved that emotional content still has a commercial market.

Ya, changing trends of emotional connectivity, in short westernisation. Obviously we don’t love each other as much as the previous generation. The emotional connect is on a decline. Things have picked up pace. Now we love everything that has a prefix “FAST”. Be it Fast food or Fast money or Fast sex. We don’t have time to sit down, think and speak a bit to ourselves. Just wonder, when was last time u missed a childhood friend or called one on his Birthday. We conveniently forget things or may be we don’t find time to think about someone. U have to rush for a survival in the present world as so does everyone. Relationships are often being short lived. Abandoning aged parents has become a common sight. Its not the common citizen to be blamed. Its the system. Competency grew and everyone hurries to grab a piece of the cake. Technology has been coming in and we have put it to our comforts. We don’t depend much on others and so has our social life come down, declining emotional connectivity the consequence. Now you would wonder if all these pretty issues make an impact at all. They do. Life is all about the smaller things, those simple pleasures. Those simple “miss u” and “hello” words and those simple JADOO KI JAPPI’s (hugs).

I have nothing more to say. I spoke it out. Having said everything i myself don’t know if i would miss an old friend.

ps: i jotted everything down and put a lot of effort to name this post. i couldn’t find 1.

pps: add a comment :P

Spirituality and life

November 2, 2007 at 3:48 pm (Uncategorized)

ya i know, being a 20 yr old i don’t know much about spirituality and im barely qualified enough to speak on it. but i just feel like sharing my feelings and ideas.

DISCLAIMER : These are my views on spirituality and i don’t intend to hurt anyones religious sentiments or inner feelings.

Spirituality…
SPIRIT(uality) , this is how i see it. Its a feeling from the inside, from the spirit of the person. many term it as devotion to the gods.
so let us extend ourselves a bit more on this. the whole subject of gods. who are gods? do they exist? if yes why is everyone suffering? if no why is the world crazy behind them? why do we try to please every god? now arises the question…how many of them??many say there is a supreme power and all these gods are incarnations…then why so many religions?? hain sabka malik ek??

if i keep asking a hundreds of thousands of questions follow. These questions have been irritating me for a while. i thought and over thought for days. finally i could reach at this but nothing better. here i go.
people believe in different gods, follow different religions,go through different epics.but every religion, and every epic inculcates into us just one thing SPIRITUALITY. all of us are bound. The whole concept of gods exists just to bind us, bind us to truthfulness, to brotherhood, to morals, to righteousness, to respect. Spirituality is a virtual control. We are bound by virtual forces. spirituality is for peace. spirituality is the idea and gods execute it. religious epics give us confidence, they give us morals, they give us perfection in life, they give us everything..best of the ways to lead a happy n prosperous life.
though i would have said we are all bound by virtual forces, SPIRITUALITY is for the greater good of the mankind, peace of the world…let us all live in peace…kudos

criticism highly welcome

Yama 2007

February 22, 2007 at 5:57 am (Uncategorized)

its a 100 years into the techy civilisation(courtesy japan n u.s)and we have become highly sensitive towards our approach to life…unfortunately we’ve become slave dogs to technology and without our notice miss every simple pleasure…a very first impression of the world stripped off the present day tech gadgets sounds horrible…

well this is an attempt to describe the worst(sry techy)age we are living in and to this context i choose the sins of the sin god yama on the present day as my theme for the go…not to a major surprise the sins may look more or less the same

-> may you be stripped off your mobile phones for a week

->may your dad cut down your pocket money to 2000 bucks pm

->may your ipods n mini music players go on a strike for a day

->may turtle studios stop conferring you with the updates of counter strike

->may your pentium home studio be attacked with the deadly trojan virus

->may the petrol bunks go on a strike for a day

->may the air conditioners be kicked off this world forever

->may the lifts n escelators everywhere around stop working forever

->may the communists shut down all the multiplexes n pubs around hyderabad

ps: guess there are no communist fans out there :P

Morning Walks

February 7, 2007 at 10:14 pm (Uncategorized)

hmmm…hold on guys…before i get too much criticism lemme explain…i aint kinda guy to get up early in the morning…hav bath…n go for a morning walk…it so happens by accident or that ivent slept the before night n today its the latter…

6 in the morning and iam out of my room wrapped in tight in my new jerk(huh!!pilani’s climate :( )…its still dark enough and this part of the year when the fog is so dense that one could hardly see beyond ten feet from his feet…as i step outside the shankar bhawan(my hostel)i see the doodh wala’s going by their mopeds heading towards the faculty housing area and the grass cutters sharpening their cutters in the age old traditional ways(typical village atmosphere)…as i pass by i see a psenti couple(bitsian slang for lovers)sitting close to each other under the patel statue and enjoying their simple romances( :( …im still a stag ).

its almost like u knoe 28 hrs that i have last eaten and i am literally dying of hunger and the mess bhaia’s are too lazy to serve the food before 7.30…so i thought of going to the nutanmarket jus outside the campus for paratha’s but i jus had a 5 rupee coin which could serve for a cup of tea…but then luckily i had my atm card with me …as i pass by the gandhi bhawan i see the day break n looking at the morning sun was………………….i wud jus say its too sexy…i walk for a couple of minutes and then im in front of the clock tower, the central attraction of BITS(well, there’s a strange belief for BITSians that who ever happens to see the clock tower accidentally before giving an exam,he flops it miserably, for me its otherwise though)…this is the first that i stared at the tower for long say a minute…it was awesome and to its beauty added the early morning golden sun rays…

i draw money from the atm and as i head for the main gate i see a faculty couple walking and i pass by them it was my chem prof mr.nandi who used to take our chem1 in the 1st semester whose classes i have never attended in time(the class was scheduled for 8 in the morning and i attended by 8.20 latest and escape giving stupid reasons every time)…to my surprise he recognised me and said in his typical bengali slang “aaj itna jaldi kaise ut gaye??class pe tho kabhi time pe nahi athe the”…i replied “bukh lagi hai sir”…he was generous enough to invite me to his home for a coffee…i thanked him n 5 minutes of a walk and iam in front of the main gate…as i come out of the campus i see many elderly people practising yogasanas at the birla ypga mandir just outside the campus…in a couple of minutes i was at the chintu bhai’s McD whose parlour’s name board read “SPACALLY FOR STUDANT”

had 3 hot butter paratha’s for jus 6 rupees each and i had a cup of tea and returned back to the hostel and then im here writing this with a soft number in the background…

the morning walks are really amazing and a lot enjoyable…ive enjoyed a lot that the first thing i did after coming to my room was switching on my comp to write this…ive never looked at things like this before…an amazing experience and i add to my list of resolutions(many of them not put into place though)that i should take a morning walk atleast once in 3 days…guss…once a week…so then good bye…time to bed

PS: a fag might give an additional pleasure..(well i dont…that was meant for those who do)

Ego and Arrogance

January 31, 2007 at 9:36 pm (Life)

well guys this is some boring stuff for those who prefer speaking less on life but for those who would rather love speaking on it its worth reading.throughout the post these are just MY VIEWS about the importance of the two things in ones life.guess i have made all my disclaimers and here i start.

You must have learnt from your moral science text bok of class 6(may be) that ego and arrogance are not good for ones social life.i may take a contrary path but again its my blog :P

why these two things together??i feel they are by and large very interelated and dont carry much of a difference when it comes to your reaction over something although their oxford meanings say

Ego :  your sense of your own value and importance

Arrogance :  the behaviour of a person when they feel that they are more important than other people, so that they are rude to them or do not consider them.

out of ego come your arrogance n vice versa.

They give one all the confidence needed especially when it comes to competing with someone…be him a student,an entrepreneur…for that matter say anyone…well many of you guys must have watched GURU by now and if you have seen the movie in micro detail you would rather see successfull people do possess both the qualities…having them is no different to having a self satisfaction for something you have achieved…but guys i dont say its all that healthy…anything in excess isnt all good…the worst part of the game is when you insult the other person of what you have achieved and the other did not…

PS: i know its a bit philosophical stuff.i assure you the next time when you click over my blog it wont be this.i was actually very much biased to writing this inspite of knowing that not many would be interested in.
